US Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Public Services Commission (PSC) convened for its regular meeting on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The purpose was to discuss several important matters. It included the initiation of a rate investigation for the STT/STJ Ferry Franchisees.
Under Title 30, Section 20 of the Virgin Islands Code, the PSC is required to conduct a rate investigation at least once every five years.
This investigation aims to assess the appropriate rates for the ferry franchisees. It ensures that they are competitive, comply with regulatory standards, and provide a fair return on investment for the operators.
During the meeting, PSC staff recommended the appointment of Jed John Hope as the Hearing Examiner for the rate investigation of the STT/STJ Ferry Franchisees. It is being handled under Docket No. 691. After careful consideration, the Commission voted to appoint Mr. John Hope to oversee the process.
Additionally, PSC staff requested that the discussion regarding the Ferry Franchisees’ objection to the PSC’s Draft Report be tabled until the Commission’s next scheduled meeting.
The meeting was attended by PSC Chairman Pedro Williams, Commissioners David Hughes, Raymond Williams, Clement Magras, and Laura Nichols-Samms. Ex-officio members Senator Carla Joseph and Senator Marise James were absent from the session.
