U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has issued an amendment to the administrative leave proclamation, establishing the official schedule for government office closures during the 2024-2025 holiday season. These closures are in observance of the holidays and the St. Croix Crucian Christmas Festival.
As per Title 1 V.I.C. § 171, the following dates have been recognized as legal holidays:
- Wednesday, December 25, 2024 – Christmas Day
- Thursday, December 26, 2024 – Christmas Second Day
- Wednesday, January 1, 2025 – New Year’s Day
- Monday, January 6, 2025 – Three Kings Day
In celebration of the St. Croix Crucian Christmas Festival, additional closures are as follows:
- Wednesday, January 1, 2025 – Crucian Christmas Festival: Food, Arts, and Crafts Fair
- Thursday, January 2, 2025 – Government offices closed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the Traditional St. Croix Festival J’ouvert (administrative leave applies to St. Croix only, allowing employees to participate in the festival).
Additionally, administrative leave will be granted throughout the territory with the following schedule:
- Tuesday, December 24, 2024 – Government offices closed from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, December 31, 2024 – Government offices closed from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Friday, January 3, 2025 – Government offices closed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to participate in the St. Croix Crucian Christmas Festival Children’s Parade.
Governor Bryan remarked, “This is a special time of year for honoring our cultural traditions and providing opportunities for public sector employees to engage in the vibrant community celebrations. By officially recognizing these days, we ensure that everyone can participate fully in these events that are so central to our identity.”
He further encouraged Virgin Islanders to embrace the season, stating, “The holidays offer us a chance to come together, spread cheer, and serve as goodwill ambassadors for our territory. I urge everyone to enjoy the festivities, spend time with loved ones, reflect on our blessings, and pray for continued growth and prosperity in our families, our economy, and our community.”
This amended proclamation ensures that the holiday season provides both a time for reflection and celebration, reinforcing the importance of cultural traditions and community connections in the Virgin Islands.
