USVI – In recognition of Older Americans Month, the Virgin Islands Department of Justice (DOJ) through its Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) and White Collar Crime & Public Corruption Division, joins communities nationwide in celebrating the invaluable contributions, resilience, and wisdom of older adults. Observed each May, Older Americans Month highlights the vital role seniors play in strengthening families, communities, and our shared future.
This year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” emphasizes the importance of empowering older adults to take charge of their physical, mental, and emotional well-being while remaining active and engaged. The MFCU and White Collar Crime & Public Corruption Division remain committed to protecting older adults from fraud, abuse, and neglect.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services will host a Health Expo at TuTu Park Mall (Center Court) from 10am – 2pm. The event will raise awareness about services available to older adults and will include information from MFCU on recognizing and reporting financial exploitation and healthcare fraud, which disproportionately impact seniors.
As part of the initiative, MFCU, and the White Collar Crime & Public Corruption Division encourage family members, caregivers and community members to actively support older adults and participate in the Health Expo. Small steps – such as regular check-ins, preventive care, and increased awareness – are key to safeguarding the well-being of our senior population and can make a meaningful difference.
